Soleus Air Conditioner Review
I purchased a Soleus portable air conditioner for my studio apartment in South Louisiana, where the heat can grow immense even during the best of times. The window unit was out and the landlord would not replace it, and I didnt want to invest in something that Id wind up leaving behind. I found the portable air conditioner to be my best option.
Wonderfully Cold Air
Of course, the very first evaluation is whether or not the unit is capable of producing cold air. I am happy to report that this did exactly what I wanted it to do. I like it very chilly inside when the heat outside grows too unbearable, and this unit still performed. I do need to note that like any air conditioner it comes with an exhaust hose. If you dont realize that hose vents out hot air youre going to have disappointing results till you figure it out. I wedged it through the space between the old, non-functioning window unit and the window and it handled the studio just fine once I made the connection between not getting the cooling power I wanted and the hose.
I Love The Control
Honestly my power bill has dropped in half because of the way I can control this unit. I use the time control the most: I tell it to turn off about twenty minutes before I leave the apartment and have it shut on about an hour beforehand. And like any thermostat it will shut off when it reaches my crisp, brisk, preferred 60 degrees too. I find its a lot more efficient than the old wall unit and Im almost happy the thing broke.
Easy To Set-up
It took me about 15 minutes to figure out how to get this thing up and running (minus the hose issue, which took me another day or so). I was happy that there werent a lot of moving parts because I honestly dont like spending a lot of time putting together a new purchase. I wanted to use it right away and it made me happy to do so.
Easy To Maintain
The filters come out and can be cleaned. That means Im not having to spend a ton tracking down filters for this thing and replacing them constantly. It also means you dont get that stinky AC smell at any point. Clean, replaceable filters are a lot more environmentally friendly, too. I went to empty the drip pan and there was nothing at allthe self-evaporation feature works even though I was skeptical about it.
Love The De-humidifier
If theres one thing you want in South Louisiana heat its a de-humidifier. We have so much humidity it feels like youre breathing through a blanket dipped in boiling water, even, sometimes, in an air conditioned home. I run this when the humidity is getting unbearable and Im pleased to report that it keeps my apartment even more comfortable than I would have imagined. I dont think Ill ever do without a de-humidifier again.

I recommend this product to anyone who might have similar needs. Its not central air and heat but it is an energy-efficient, low-maintenance cooling device that works exactly as advertised. It was a good value for the money and Id buy it again.
